Books On Air – A Werkplaats Typografie Radio Broadcast Live from Arnhem, Netherlands

The Werkplaats Typografie (WT) is a two-year masters program in Arnhem, the Netherlands centred on practical assignments and self-initiated projects. WT is based in a former radio station, built in 1937. For the duration of the LA Art Book Fair 2013, the WT students will broadcast "Books On Air" live from Arnhem, directly to the project space at the fair in downtown Los Angeles. This is a program about typography and a platform focused on translating printed matter into airwaves.

From the voices of the Venetian Lagoon, the secret Phantom Radio, Audio Nights, the occasional WT rock band ensemble, the Library Organ, the sound posters in Chaumont, to an array of anything that can possibly be recorded, WT students exhibit a general interest in sound!

Is it a coincidence then that the WT building was a former radio station? According to artist and WT mentor Paul Elliman, "Every now and then, for those of us working late into the night at our computers, still crackles with the ghostly static of residual electronic energy. In the secret life of buildings, a school may be the most haunted of them all."
